Hi guys,
For now I'll just ask the basic question and then later on I might open up a little, OK ??

So, assume that we have our bike and car insured with different companies ( one for a bike and one for a car ) ...if you or I commit a Road Traffic offence, OR are involved in a non-fatal RTA ( Damage to car / bike etc) and we inform the relevant covering company do we then also have to inform the other company as well ??...........Or is that now done automatically within "The System" .........

If you've made a claim at all you must declare it by law otherwise you are obtaining insurance by fraud.

It probably is done automatically these days any way but they will still ask you whether you've had any accidents or claims in the last 5 years whether or not it was your fault!!

Hi Tomshayes and thanks for your quick reply-------and yes you are quite correct when buying a new policy, but a problem arises when you already have a policy in place and the Insurance Company activate their automatic Annual Renewal procedure and don't ask for any updates....

Also, if you make a claim on your car insurance do you then have to inform the Bike insurers as well, or is that now part of their shared database ??

I think it's up to the to the policy holder to inform the insurer of any changes that may affect an insurance renewal/claim.ie penalty points.any accident claim. The automatic renewal is gold dust to insurance companies. It maybe a get out clause for future claims against them if they were not informed of any changes that would affect the policy.ie adding accessories to your bike like a top box, exceeding the specified max mileage on your policy.

So if I have a single vehicle accident involving my car, do I then have to inform my Bike insurance company as well ??......

However I can see that if I'm involved in a Road Traffic Offence ( NB--NOT an accident ) where a fine is imposed and points applied to my licence then both companies would want to know BUT doesn't this Electronic linking now do that automatically ??

The onus is on you to tell any insurance company you may have if there has been any changes in circumstances, accidents, claims or convictions, regardless of blame, vehicle, policy or ownership. It's not all bad news, honesty doesn't necessarily result in an increased premium.

Hello FRANK and thanks for the input--------- I can understand what you say, but in turn it now begs the question of "When??"..........Must it be immediately, or can it wait until renewal time ??.......I'm referring to the company covering the vehicle that WASN'T involved in the Road Traffic Offence....So if the offence occurs in my car do I then have to tell the Bike's insurance people immediately as well ( I've already told the car Insurers due to the offence ), or can it wait until the bikes insurance renewal time....??

Hi guys------ I've done a wee bit'o Googling on this and here is an extract lifted from our "Simples" friends at Compare the Market.com}---- Do I need to tell an insurance provider about previous car accidents?
When you apply for car insurance, you’re expected to disclose details of all previous car accidents you’ve been involved in as a driver. However, you might not realise that you need to disclose details of all vehicle accidents. So, if you’re applying for car insurance and you’ve been involved in an accident while riding a motorcycle, for example, you’ll need to tell your insurance provider about the incident.

The same applies to any accidents you may have had while driving a company car. Your insurance provider will expect to be told about these too.

These accidents must be disclosed even if you didn’t make an insurance claim at the time, or if you weren’t at fault in any way...............

https://www.comparethemarket.com/car-in ... .....Other comparison sites are available !!!.....So I've just this min. been on to my Bike insurers about a single vehicle, non-injury car accident that I was involved in whilst driving Joyces car last year for which I'm a named driver.............I took the opportunity to ask if the Insurers common database should have bought this to their attention ??...He said "Yes, it should have" and wondered why it hadn't been flagged up ........ So my attempts at becoming an arch villain, a public enema, a criminal and non-compliant person by not telling will have to go on hold yet again !!-----Shame !!

It's a minefield isn't it? Last year a dominant player in the market refused to renew insurance on my 1953 Dot, a Bike that I have insured for decades without a problem and without a claim since purchased I 1992. There were no changes to my circumstances (except one year older at 67) nor in the bike (except one year older at 64). When I asked "why?" as expected the response was that they could not tell me. Right, so when I try and insure elsewhere, the question comes up "Have you ever been refused insurance?" The answer has to be "Yes." The response then is "Why?" and I can give no explanation. Insurance companies - don't get me going - Oh! you just did!
