I have fitted a Lithium Ion battery. It is repositioned under the saddle so I can get that "see through" look behind the cylinder. It works fine, mounted on its side. Bike is a Kick start 350, so I can't comment on electric starting.

I would be wary of lithium ion batteries, they were notorious for catching fire, eg. phones, cars, trucks, motorcycles which no doubt you have seen on the news etc. High-set houses have been burnt down when cars are parked underneath and the battery explodes. Maybe that problem has been eliminated, I don`t know.
