Good afternoon ,I have a 350 {trials} 2000 model year, the bike has a Amal carb (no filter ) and a Boyer mk4 ignition.Whilst the bike starts well and will tick over ok it will not pull under load ?.I have just strobed timed the bike as per Hitchcocks tech info, ie 32 degrees and tdc. When the revs rise the mark on the rotor passes the tdc mark and continues to approx 20 degrees more ?.Bike has just had top end rebuild all mechanical timing is spot on .IM SO CONFUSED,Any advice would be most welcome ,Its my first post so thanks in advance ,Regards all .Lee

Assuming your 32* mark is accurate, simply rotate the points backplate until you have an indicated 32* once full advance has been reached. It would appear from your post you only have 12* at full advance at the moment.

Hi Thanks ,Tried that as per Hitchcocks tech info But not even at its max setting on the plate is it close ,Seems its way off ,and yes the timing marks are good ,Wonder if the Boyer is working correctly ?.Regards lee

Hi you need to pop the magnet rotor off the taper and move it, cant remember which way but not much2 to 3mm if too retarded big kickbackI just make a mark on stator at 32 degrees.I use a bit of plastic between rotor and stator one end aligned with tdc mark line on plastic 21.9mm from tdc end, find tdc plastic stripin gapend on tdc mark on 32btdc mark stator mark rotor at tdc mark, I use one of the marks on rotor as tdc mark and scribe 32 mark on stator also use fine point texta on marks, works for me once set forget.

Hi Thanks Scotty ,Im going to try moving the rotor ,BUT sould it be that far out with the boyer instuctions set ,Maybe a little ajustment but that far out will that ruin the start/tick over ,Anybody else had any issues like this ,Thanks again lee

Hi both boyer and hitchcocks sheets need careful reading, I mark the plastic plate with the coils on to show where pin is this lets me align the magnet rotor more accurately. Try to get 32btdc with slots in plate in mid position geves a bit of adjustment each way, gave you a bum steer kickback occurs if over advanced not retarded bad one can bugger up oil pump spindle, a bit frustrating and time consuming but worth it. Way better than points, put two markson movable plate and dizzy body then you can run up a decent hill 70 to 80klm if it pinks pull it back a tad

The back plate only needs to move just over 2mm in it's slots to rectify the problem.

I had this problem when fitting a Boyer. There is no way you can "fit and forget" using the instructions provided. You can, however, get the engine to run if you follow the instructions carefully. It's then a matter of tweaking it til it runs right. If it kicks back (too much) just retard it a hair and vice versa. I nudged mine about a LOT til I got it right.
Or use a strobe ;-)
If you run out of adjustment just reset the rotor on the taper.
