Amsoil and other synthetic oils need to be used in a clean engine, using them in a used /old engine with gunk throughout the oilways will loosen the gunk which is usually all that is stopping worn seals and tired gaskets from leaking. They will eventually clean the engine, but only after the worn seals and gaskets have been replaced will the leaks stop. This is one reason synthetic oil is now used in most new vehicles, when the engine is disassembled years later, everything is clean and shiny.
