Yeah, yeah. Overtightening. I know. It's hard to tell how tight you're doing up a nylok. But anyway, I just pulled out my old VM24 mikcarb to fit to my 350 bullet this weekend, the wear on the amal I've got on has rendered it all but useless. I have to tickle it so much to seal up the gaps round the slide with fuel so it'll draw air properly and start, I'm afraid I'm going to set it on fire.



I noticed the inlet manifold on the mikcarb is more than a little bananna-shaped now. I was going to subject it to a little gentle percussive maintainance with a nylon hammer but I was wondering if there are any other tips or tricks for sorting out this common issue?

I'm afraid you will crack it if you hit it. Lap it flat on wet n dry on a flat board?

Probably a bit too far gone for lapping. After a sleep on it, I thought could try a thicker o-ring. Or possibly sanding a slight curve on one side of one of the thick plastic spacers to match the curve on the manifold.

Actually, good call Pete. I wouldn't have thought it would lap down so nicely but after 20 minutes moderate arm exercise and one sheet of wet and dry, I reckon that's a pretty good result. Doesn't say much for the quality of the alloy I suppose but I think it's acceptably flat now.

You can see how bent the flange itself is but the face is now straight enough to be going on with.
