Quick update: I ended up getting a replacement baffle from our hosts. This was quite a bit more substantial than anticipated (guess over 12" long) and has made a dramatic difference to the noise levels. At around 50-60, the exhaust noise is now a very distant 'second fiddle' to the wind noise. I imagine that with baffle, the goldie is probably as safe for your ears as the original 'stock' silencer.
