Hi, I have been looking into my gearbox (4 speed) with a view to changing the kickstart shaft O ring and generally checking, lubricating and cleaning as necessary to help prevent oil leaks.. My only query is that when I pulled off the second cover (not the outer one) to get to the inner gearbox proper, the washer shown below fell out (in truth so did the kickstart pawl but that was because I knocked it). To me I can see nowhere where this might go. Is it an old filler plug washer that somebody has left in there from years ago?

Also what oil and/or grease should I use in this gearbox?

Any comments most welcome - thanks.

I got everything back together okay and it now runs and feels better with far less leakage of oil.

In case it helps anybody - one mistake i made was to fit the piece of metal that holds the clutch lever (gearbox) in the wrong way up. On my bike this meant that the clutch adjuster with ball did not line up exactly with the end of the clutch rod. The piece looked symmetrical but obvious was not and when mounted the correct way up the clutch was easily adjusted and feels very smooth.I chose to use straight 50 (GP50) oil in the end as per the book - time will tell if that was a good decision.
