Hi Mart thanks for posting the link to OPti-Diesel. You say usage is mandatory in Texas? Could you give us links to Texas law etc, would be interesting as it is usually California that spearheads legislation regarding vehicle emissions.

If this stuff did what they claim it would be mandatory globally very quickly.
Average 12.34% reduction in fuel consumption

Average 75% reduction in carbon monoxide (CO)

Average 99% reduction in Nitric Oxide (NO)

Average 55% reduction in Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)

Average 91% reduction in the other Mono Nitrogen Oxides (NOX)

Average 47% reduction in DPM (diesel particulate matter)

Maintenance costs reduced due to fewer filter changes

Does that sound to good to be true??

re Texas law: I was quoting from the Motorcycle Action Group's article on this. they are promoting this product (along with Fair Fuel UK) as an alternative to banning older vehicles from inner cities

I've very recently put two of our family cars through the MOT test. One has a petrol engine, the other is a diesel. The emissions tests showed that the output of CO of both was 0.0. I don't think the claimed 75% reduction would be possible in either of those cars. A catalytic convertor is designed to convert CO into CO2.

Claims like this need to be properly tested under laboratory conditions. A couple of questions, probably for the chemists amongst you:
  1. What happens to the nitrogen oxides? Reduced to nitrogen?
  2. Does a catalyst reduce the energy levels required to start a reaction, or does it just speed up a reaction once started?
If (1) is true I think it's pretty clever to be able to get reducing conditions (for NOXs) and oxidising conditions (for the CO) in the same bit of exhaust pipe.
Skeptical? Me?

I know nothing first-hand about this product but the claims made for it by many motoring organisations, fleet owners, motoring web-sites and journalists are breath-taking, while the background to the company developing the product seems ‘interesting’.

I’m a natural-born skeptic when it comes to additives of any sort but am staggered by the claims for this particular product. Can they be true?!!!

I have a feeling we’ve been baited boys and girls...

Here’s the link to Texas’ Low Emissions Diesel program. It’s for refineries and sellers of diesel, not for consumers (directly)... https://www.tceq.texas.gov/airquality/m ... iesel.html

Search for opti-diesel and you only get hits for their own website. Search for where to buy it and you get opti-lube, which is available and a completely different company and different line of products...
