I am about to try and get my 1956 500 Twin's original registration number. I have old tax discs, the logbook, fuel vouchers, photos and other bits that will hopefully support my case. Looking at the REOC website I read "We would prefer that you retain your originals and submit authenticated photocopies, obtained from your local Vehicle Registration Office and stamped by them. This will avoid any risk of irreplaceable evidence being lost in the mail."

It would seem that there are no local VROs any more? Any idea what I should do? I am reluctant to post the originals. Secondly is the machine dating officer who would deal with the REOC piece of the process? Sorry but this is all new to me any guidance welcome.

Local VRO's sadly closed in 2013, it's all done at DVLA in Swansea. I would contact the club's dating officer for current advice, as what's on the web site doesn't seem to have been updated accordingly!



Your solicitor should be able to supply authenticated photocopies, though I gather main post offices can do this as well (best to check). If you want the V765 form mentioned in the REOC instructions you can download it here.

Yeah, what Adrian says. Good idea to get a Dating Certificate from the REOC, any and all extra evidence will help the case go through DVLA first time. If you have the old log book in theory it should be easy but you can understand why the DVLA might not take it on it's own if you see the number of old log books for sale on Ebay!

Oh, another thing, as Adrian says you can get certified copies from a Solicitor (Police stations no longer do this,) but they must also be a Commissioner for Oaths, not all solicitors are. I had to do exactly this with a Super Meteor project I did a few years ago.

I had to get some certified copies of documents at a Commissioner for Oaths Solicitors it cost very little money.
(Someone I know was having problems with the DWP.)
