Hello Folk’s

I have a 2005ish 350 AVL (350 Electra x motor) Kick start only…..I presume this is the same Engine as in the “350Thunderbird” of the same period, as far as Engine Parts are concerned.

At some point I will be changing the Head gasket ? ..

If any one familiar with this engine knows of any problems or hints while doing this let me know (I have done a Iron Engine 350 before but this is the Alloy head one with tall rockers.)..

So: Q: 350AVL same as Thunderbird ?...Q: any Problems changing the Head gasket?

Lastly it came with a Bag of Indian bits from its previous owner inc a "Tin Plate item that Could be a Head gasket?? its Tin with a core of?/" is this a spare Head gasket??

Cheers all..
Thank you.Craig

Thanks Tim..This one looks like 2 bits of Tin Plate with "Copper?" in between....The Composite one on my Iron Engine was almost "Gell like" and very good...

The 350 AVL engine was used on the Thunderbird and Machismo home market models, both kick start and electric start versions exist. ASSUMING it's the same set-up as the 500 AVL engine which Electra-X owners will be familiar with, if it has the original cylinder head nuts and lots of protruding cylinder stud end poking out over the top of the nuts preventing the use of a normal socket, a deep 12mm socket will let you reach the two nuts under the rockers, where a ring spanner won't go.

Also watch out for the spring washers between the rockers and the head casting, a set of pliers to grab the little tags will help. Some sort of mandrel to line them up with holes in the rockers will make re-fitting the rocker shafts easier.

The CDI ignition is a good point on the K/S versions...
