I have sold my 2003 b350 and I am considering buying a newer EFI b500.I know Royal Enfield have quoted a top speed of 130 kmph (80 mph) but on other sites I have read conflicting figures.I know these bikes are not about speed but I want to get up to the national UK speed limit if I need to go on the motorway.

Highliy personal opinion. Wait until the 650s start being sold in the UK, then wait a bit just in case there a problems, if there aren't buy one of those.

Problem there is if the Himalayan is anything to go by these bikes are not going to be in UK dealers till well into 2019.The you have the wait to see how they perform maybe another year.Yes I know some among us may say "but they have a warranty" but I don't want the hastle if gearboxes break up or engines seize.

My EFI bullet cruised comfortably at 65ish on a motorway and, as long as it wasn't a long hill, would easily accelerate IP to 70-75 when required. It was a bit frantic at that speed to keep it up all day, but a few miles was fine Plenty fast enough for safe motorway riding in my view. Himalayan performance is similar, but smooth enough to cruise at 70 all day.

My 2017 euro 4 bullet with an eighteen tooth sprocket will do 70 mph in 4th gear and cruise at 70mph in top gear, I get rid of the o-ring chain and put on a 530 h standard chain, the o-ring chains have to much friction in them and hold the bike back, with the low power of the bullet engine they need all the help that they can get. My 2009 bullet was faster at the top end than the euro 4 bullet so a pre 2017 bullet would be better. It would seem that the restricted exhausts on the euro 4s stifle performance.

Very tempted by the Himalayan.Problem is I will be riding roads all the time.Seems such a waste for an off road/trail bike.

Test ride of an Himalayan would answer that question, with the state of the roads these days an off road bike may be the way to go, myself I will get another year on my bullet then have an Himalayan, but before that I have a 650 twin on order so we will see how things work out.

By this time tomorrow I will have done 5000 road miles on my Himalayan. I will post a full review in the next few days. Sneak preview - unless you put a premium on the style of a Bullet, the Himalayan is a better bike in every way! Great bike.

+1 for haggis and the chain idea. I find they although the bike is capable of 70+ I'm using 30%more throttle and 30% more fuel for less than 5% increase in speed so I stick to 60-65 which equates to about 20 miles less on a 2 hour ride. Mines a Euro 3 C5
