Jamesy, inspecting my front brake and drilling out the top thread and using a locknut will be my next job after changing the oil. When I first got the bike the front brake was adjusted very loose and barely worked so I adjusted the actuators on the front but it didnt seem right like i was forcing them tighter. When I pull the front brake lever the forks compress and the bike nose dives and slows down so they are ok but could do with some attention. To be fair I have been riding around using anticipation and engine braking and a bit of rear brake mainly, not having ridden any other old Enfields I just assumed dodgy brakes were par of the course but after seeing how the rear has improved it looks like that may not be the case.

I think I need to take the rear wheel off again and check the rear hub as my brake issue is back with a vengeance this time the wheel has started locking up badly with a slight press of the pedal. At first just for the first few applications of the brake when cold but it started happening a few miles into a ride so I had to limp the bike home mainly using the front. Loosening off the pedal seemed to help but its still doing it, its odd because it will start working normally and then go bad again meaning application of the pedal has to be done gingerly. :(
