I would investigate further at least. I'd say looking at the general condition that water has got in there which means the bearings and probably other components will need replacing. While you are in there why not put in the trials gear pair? That's if your box is late enough, 1959 on l think. REgards, Mark

As you have found out, the Indian covers are a different shape to the English ones.

I would have thought that it would have been easier and possibly cheaper to find a good replacement than weld the one you have, it doesn't look the best.

If you are searching for a replacement, the 1N234 is cast into the English ones and raised on the Indian covers.

ET - Your cover's simply not worth considering for repair. Do a parts search above on "USED2942"....... HTH

I fitted an English cover to my Indian 350 gearbox to try and stop the flex when using the clutch.

The Indian cover is flatter & the metal is thinner, the edges do not meet up exactly but the English one did fit.

I should imaging that an Indian cover would fit an English gearbox if you can't get the correct one.

I have a decent Indian ‘box going spare after I swapped in a 5-speeder recently. If you’re interested, text your email address to 07557 907509 and I’ll send you more details, some pics etc.

From memory I have fitted an Indian gearbox end cover to a 54 Meteor gearbox but I had some issues with the Indian cover taking a metric bearing and the Meteor mainshaft is imperial. From memory I had to sleve the mainshaft. Apart from a couple of drilling going through the case and making it difficult to seal the screws it fitted fine.
ET you are getting your covers mixed up but I'm pretty sure the Indian outer cover will fit, but it has been a while
