I have been told by a experienced engineer that I shouldn't use valve guide seals on cast iron valve guides, which are fitted OE in my Iron Bullet 500. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

I agree with your engineer, phosper bronze is to a degree self lubricating but cast iron isn't.

Hi Nev, I never use valve guide seals on any of the R.E. engines I build and tune, whether they are 250, 350, 500 singles, or 500,700, or 750 twins with either cast or phosphor bronze valve guides. Also, I have stripped numerous Bullet engines where the play between the valves and guides has been massive, but they hadn't been burning oil. Regards, Paul.
