Hi ASBO 26 is now 535cc but I am running 5 speed box with standard 500 set up 17 tooth gearbox sprocket... Now given that standard gearing for 535 is 18 should I go for that option? .. I don't want to go too tall on the gearing and 17 makes for a fairly rapid bike in its current state of tune...

Hi Tom, your engine should cope fine with an 18t gearbox sprocket. I wouldn't go any larger than that myself, but others may disagree. Regards, Paul.

My Tollgate 625 (heavy piston = not a high rev ceiling) used to have a 19 tooth sprocket on a 4-speed gearbox with Hitchcock's 'close ratio' conversion.

It would run happily at a verified 65 mph at 3500 rpm. The main problem was too much clutch slipping needed for a quick getaway as a result of the larger sprocket and the narrowing of the gearbox ratios by fitting the Hitchcock gears.

Acceleration through the gears surprised many of my riding companions, however.(br>
Yesterday, I finished fitting a 5 speed gearbox with a 20 tooth sprocket. Infortunately I had no time left for a road test, so I'll update you asap.
