Dynamo on a 54 Meteor 700 not charging - does anybody know anyone who can refurbish please. Tried D'fly - wanted nearly as much as the bike is worth!
Thanks

I have a pal who might be able to do it, he specialises in pre-War car dynamos. I will ask. I will get back to you later, just going out to Club night. He used to ride my Meteor now and again and loved it!

Have you checked & cleaned the armature segments, have you checked the brushes, have you checked what if anything the dynamo is making?
After all it may not be your dynamo that is at fault

Bettsy, Pete says he can do it, go to http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/ and follow the contact information. Explain that Mark sent you from the Hitchcocks Message Board. But first, do as Bryan suggests, make sure it actually is a faulty dynamo!

Creaky ,i posted a reply but it appears to have gone AWOL.I've looked at my spares, the cradle has a slot like 5/8" long (primary end of cradle)
but as you say there's not real slots on the timing side of the motor, although the manual says the later Magdyno is adjustable for slack.
I have a spare dyno distributor CS35 off a Meteor and it has the duplex sprocket, also the manuals exploded view of the motor confirms that.
Check it has the stud-nut on the cradle looking in from the primary side.If not you may have a 500 :( .The single chain would suggest
a Twin 500.together with the 26mm carb fitted beforehand,Meteor eng no is T7.... Chain should have 3/16" up and down slack. Also there
should be no play in the dizzie shaft,I have 53 and 54 rotors, like Mark says toss them for new ones.

Colin - would you part with the spare dynamo? Ta, Tony

Sorry tony but it's to be matched with a Meteor motor that is slowly being built up.
New conrods just fitted last week.
Look up ignitions-used parts on this site for a secondhand unit,it's for the 500 model
unfortunately.
They are pretty much still rebuilable and dear as.
cheers

A man with a voltmeter called this morning to check any output from the dynamo. I had cleaned the comm. yesterday with a cloth and petrol, so hoped all was OK. Tiny output shown on the voltmeter. Flashed the field terminal, but only got a blue spark, no real sign of any direct current shorting. Checke the output again - no change. The field coil was tested for resistance - reading of 2.8 ohms, spot on according to the Lucas data. Of course the brushes are not accessible for checking with the dynamo in situ, so looks as though I will have to remove it to check it further .... happy days!!!
