Vince, as far as I can tell, you won't need an MOT if you have filled in a V112 and sent in your V5C to have the taxation class changed to a vehicle of historic interest (VHI).

I was told the correct V112 wont be available at the post office until the 21st

IIRC it's 40 years for historic vehicle, ie no tax, but MOT still required unless the vehicle is pre 1960...

Eligibility

The date your vehicle was built affects whether you need to:

get an MOT

pay vehicle tax

Date the vehicle was built

1 January 1978 onwards

You must get an MOT and pay vehicle tax.

If you don’t know when your vehicle was built, but it was first registered between 1 and 7 January 1978, you don’t have to pay vehicle tax.

1 January 1960 to 31 December 1977

You must get an MOT, but don’t have to pay vehicle tax.

Before 1 January 1960

You don’t have to get an MOT or pay vehicle tax.

Historic vehicle dates

After the 20th of May vehicles over forty years old that have not been radically altered will not need an MOT once you have changed your taxation class to 'a vehicle of historic interest'

My Redditch Bullet 350 was registered Oct. 1960 and has been an "Historic Vehicle" since before I bought it in 2002. My understanding is that it still needs an annual MOT test.......if it's MOT-exempt, that is definitely NOT what is stated on the DVLA website.

Similarly, my Triumph T140 registered November 1978, still needs to be both taxed and MOT'd and is not eligible for "Historic Vehicle" status until next year, when it will still require an annual MOT test.......

Oh - oh, looked into it a bit further......seems that the DVLA website info. has not been updated. On 21st. May, forty + years old = VHI status can apply, and MOT test no longer needed (subject to the "substantial change" criteria being met). As you were, Rasp !!

My apologies too!

Normally, I go by the horses mouth, but if the DeVious LA can't be bothered to update their website then f*** them! Seriously, they sell your details to dodgy parking companies, and can't even be bothered to update their own bloody site. Bastards!

So I can have a vehicle from 1978 (soon) that wiull be MOT AND TAX free?
