Hi, I have an Enfield 500 iron barrel 4 speed, with a keihin 30mm carb & a Goldie style exhaust, can anyone suggest the best carb jetting to start tuning, I have tried many combinations, best is 142 main,/42 pilot,/needle center slot, but when engine is fully warmed up it will bog down( if that's the right term! ) as if running out of petrol beyond 1/4 throttle. But I know it SHOULD be running rich with that jetting! I am considering raising the float level? Any ideas? Layman terms only please!

Not sure there are many Keihin carb fitted Bullets here. Is this a genuine Keihin carb or the JRC copy? If it's the latter these have been used by Bullet owners in the USA, so someone on the Classic Motorworks Forum there might know. A.

Many thanks for your reply 'A' its the JRC USA job,but after many trial combinations of pilot / main / needle pos'ns with out success i thought to check the float height, & BINGO, it was miles out of whack, the nearest recommended height i could find was for a 28mm carb, was 19mm height, so for any Bulleteers with the same problem ie:-bogging down 1/2 to 3/4 twist-grip,and a lot of rumbling exhaust on deceleration. i set my 30mm carb at 19mm height, standard 140 main supplied, but increased the standard pilot from 35 to No.40, needle on centre slot. & it runs sweet as a nut, with good pick-up & no backfire,(and no blueing exhaust pipe) it maybe a tad rich, but thats got to be better than weak, it could be i can adjust it a little leaner with the idle screw. Hope this helps anyone considering this flat sided carb, which bolts straight onto the head (No more nasty rubber tunnels)I fitted Hitchcocks Goldie exhaust system. & a free flowing conical air filter.
