Hi Tom, if holding the tickler down made no difference , it seems less likely to be a fuel starvation problem and possibly ignition, valve timing, or even exhaust related. You say the engine starts and ticks over ok ish, but will it run for any length of time like that, or not? Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul..

The valve timing is correctly set at TDC with the inlet retarded 1 notch... I took a photo of it set up.. The Pazon is set up according to the instructions.. Fully clockwise at TDC on compression stroke and then would back untill the red LED lights up.. The bike starts first or second kick and ticks over OK.. But if I try to rev it for a while it cuts out...

I'm going to try a 107 needle jet to see if that improves matters at all... If not I will reset valve timing to standard and try again...

Hi Tom, I would expect the retarded inlet cam timing to be a help to smooth pickup, rather than a hindrance, but I guess you might time your cams on the dots and cure your problem - worth a try, I'm sure. Regarding the exhaust, I just wondered if it could somehow be restrictive, or have a blockage - just take it off to find out! Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul

Exhaust is straight through Goldie... No restriction at all..

I'll try the 108 tomorrow.. If no joy I'll reset the inlet valve and try that.

Hi Tom,
Which Pazon ignition have you fitted, if it the same as mine you should be setting the static timing LED on full advance not TDC,

Pazon Altair... Set up at TDC on compression as per the instructions... Anyway I fitted the 108 needle jet with needle on middle notch and the bike now revs... I should be able to strobe the timing now... Hopefully followed by a test ride and carb adjustments... The mixture was extremely weak as I suspected... I still got a pop through the carb but possibly because it was still cold and I haven't tweaked the timing yet...

Just a thought, Tom - I am now wondering if you have the correct needle in your carb, assuming the float height is correct, as a 108 needle jet is pretty large and the fact the engine seems happier with such a pilot jet fitted may indicate your needle is too fat / large. They have very small identification codes above the grooves, such as 2A3 etc. Regards, Paul.
