I am nearing the end of the rebuild of my 1960 350 bullet and now have to refit the speedo cable , as the bike came in a half dismantled state I am not sure of the correct routing. I have taken it from the speedo head along the top tube, over the top of the tool box, down to the speedo drive but it looks tight
I had hoped it would lie along the swinging arm frame but it looks tight. I have checked the size and its 54 inch as listed in the parts book.

Any advice appreciated.

Arty, that routing is correct, it then passes between the seat frame and the frame down to the speedo drive gearbox. This routing means you can take the seat and rear mudguard off as one unit without disturbing the speedo drive or cable. Your post makes it sound as if you are expecting the cable to run horizontally along the swing arm, it should actually point upwards at about 1 o'clock. Your speedo box drive should point forwards and be above the wheel spindle, not below. Most British bikes of the era had the drive below the wheel, Enfields are relatively unusual in that they are above. This might explain why your cable seems short.

Thanks for the advice Mark, off to the bikes home to make sure the cable passes under the seat carrier.
