All sentiments echoed. Alan, you're starting to worry me.One golden rule though.Don't EVER have a meal out after a donor session, I made that mistake, did'nt get the bill, just two blokes in green overalls asking me if I was ok..

Altruism? Hardly (in my opinion) I used to donate my B+ whenever I could until I was no longer able to do so.
Donating blood is unquestionably a good thing to do, but the body naturally replenishes the loss.

Were someone to go and donate something like a kidney to a total stranger, something you won't wake up one morning and find its come back so you can donate it all over again - now that's what I think of as being an example of real Altruism.

Good point, ric!
Besides, in my case a nice lady takes care of you and the snacks are free.
It's like taking a nap.

Hi All,
I am Group O Rh Negative and I donated regularly for many years.
During major surgery for Prostate Cancer in 2004 I required and received 8 pints.
Since then they refuse to take my blood, I often wonder if they are afraid that I was given, imported from USA, blood from an HIV subject!
They explain trhat it is because I had surgery! strange!
Nowadays they take blood from any ragtags and gays.
Given my relatively rare Group I would have thought that they would want it, but no!
