The condenser on mine was never any problem. If it bothers you, bearing in mind the original component - if still fitted - will be getting near 60 years old, our hosts list new replacements.



Otherwise, I see from the picture in the parts book that RE appears to have used the Lucas 4CA points plate, the same as later C15s, B40s, Tiger Cubs, etc. You can replace this with a 6CA points plate off a BSA Starfire (or any British twin of the same period if you can't get one with only one set of points fitted), which allows for finer points adjustment and uses a separate condenser at an appropriate part of the wiring loom. These condensers definitely WERE intended for 12V use.



Going 12V would also let you fit a points-assisted electronic ignition. I'm not sure where you'd stand going for a full electronic ignition conversion though, I haven't seen one offered for the unit 250s unless you count the crankshaft-mounted CDI kits.
