Hi, I am new to this site and I have a new Classic 500 EFI (EURO 4) on the way and would like to upgrade the silencers as soon as possible. The stock ones sound awful. Just a couple of questions, I am assuming it's best to wait until after the bike is run in? And looking at the Goldstar silencers on this site that are compatible with this bike, would the bike need to be remapped with those? Thanks for any help.

A Euro 4 EFI should not require a remap (Power Commander) after fitting a Goldstar silencer (91150B) and only becomes a necessity if fitting a open megaphone, open turnout silencer or heavy engine modifications.

There should be no reason to not fit a free flowing silencer to a new bike before running in and just carry on with a normal running in procedure once fitted.

Thanks very much for your reply. I'll probably order one shortly after getting the bike. Does anyone know if this causes warranty issues?

You'll have to ask your supplying Dealer but normally manufacturers refuse warranty claims if any modifications have been made and that seems fair to me having seen what some folk consider fitting! (Not that I have a problem with what you're doing but a Warranty is pretty tightly worded.)

Hi Edward and welcome to the site-----I'm glad that the owner ( ie --you !) has introduced the Warranty issue and not me for a change ....The real area of concern for both Warranty and Insurance concerns has to be their often used phrase}-- "Is the bike is As-built condition ?".........If you answer "Yes" ---- but have already done some changes without notifying the appropriate company, well that now constitutes Fraud...ie}- obtaining a product or service of theirs by deception..............Even if you do those changes after the declaration you still have a duty to tell them asap.....It's exactly the same line of thinking that the Insurance Companies take with your House Insurance, improvements and the like....... Now I'm aware that some companies hold a list of After Market bolt-on goodies which are pre-approved .... My advice would be to contact your Insurance and your Warranty providers, tell them what you have in mind and see what they say and, no matter what their response is -----get them to send it in writing as well !! ........This might not be the answer you'd hoped for but do you want to lose your Insurance Cover and / or your Warranty with the phrase "Failure to Disclose" stamped in Red on your documents ??......

Hello, and thanks for the welcome and tips. I will certainly discuss the warranty when I collect the bike, hopefully next week. I'd loathe to wait 2 years for the warranty to expire to have to change the silencers, the stock ones sound pretty poor (although not as bad as the one on my EFI Bonneville did). I think it really affects the enjoyment of the bike when the bike sounds like a sewing machine. As for insurance, maybe it's my anecdotal experience but I sort of assume most people don't always notify their insurance providor of every modification on their bikes and cars(even if they should). When I decide to go for new silencers, I'll certainly ask them before I do it if it'll raise the premiums. I think most insurance providors normally allow up to 5 modifications for free nowadays, but I could be wrong.

Hi Edward-------at the end of last Summer ( 2017 ) I had a non-attributable accident in our car, which given it's age and type was "Written off" and a cash sum paid out (I'm a "Named Driver" on Joyce's Policy )....................Last month, as my BIKE Insurance was due to be renewed I remembered about the CAR accident and asked my Broker if I really needed to inform them about the CAR accident.... my understanding being that the Insurance Databases are all linked nowadays and they would have been told, wouldn't have they ??....and it's A BIKE policy I'm renewing so it doesn't matter, does it ??............We contacted the Insurance company just to confirm that the CAR details had indeed been sent to them??.....Guess what ??---------"Thank you Sir for informing us of the CAR accident-----No, we hadn't been informed but now that we do know your BIKE Insurance has now been cancelled as Null and Void !!"............Reason for this was given as}---- "Failure to Disclose" ....Beggars belief but I assure you that's exactly what happened.......So, through no fault of my own ( other than ignorance of how the system works ) I now have a black mark against my Insurance record and the premiums of BOTH CAR and BIKE have gone up.......
