Hi Guys----------OK, have just been chatting a friend who was the main guy involved with restoring the late Tim's 350 that you saw earlier.. ......He's a BSA man in the main (Hi Beesa Bryan--- it's Myles from Telford ).......He suggests that the lever we see on the access plate is indeed the de-compressor and is spring loaded so that it will to return to it's original running position...................The idea is that on the inside the shaft is D-shaped and that when the rider turns the lever it will hold the exhaust valve up against it's own spring.........When the engine is turned over during kick-starting that lever is loosened and returns to the original running position thus restoring compression and the engine will start....... allegedly me lud !!.............You may have to do a bit of initial "Twiddling" to get the hang of it !!!.......Tim's bike had the same idea except the lever was wholly inside the chamber and operated by a cable from the handlebars.....

I don't think so Alan. You can see a slot in the lever for the cable and a "half time decompressor" of the type fitted to Panthers is usually easier to reach with your foot, you wouldn't want to bend down and fiddle with that thing every time!

Hello Mark-how's the cats ??.... I now seem to be running a Cat's Hotel !!--------- Yes, I'm of the same opinion really-----I did remark ( re-mark ?? ) to my friend that it would be very awkwards indeed to start a bike if you had to reach down to move that lever.........Alas we don't have access to that 350 anymore.....After Tim's heart attack and his passing we seem to have lost contact with his Widow....That's the garage of the new house they had only just moved into....Notice how clean that concrete floor is ??.....I think that the idea of a valve lifter is probably how Steve P's 250 works only with an external connection for the cable.......
