The forks on the 1952 G model (its the one with an alloy top instrument panel with the speedo in) have seen better days

Searching the interweb I noticed incredibly cheap fork stanchions from India which say for early Enfields but these seem to be for post 1954 Enfields.

Can the 1954 stanchions be used on the 1952 or is my only option the Hitchcocks ones at £100+ a tube?

No, the later tubes are different as are the Indian ones. Those stanchions aren't too badly pitted by the look of them, they can be re-claimed (better than new, actually) by hard chrome plating and grinding. Cost less than a new pair. I don't know where you are but I recommend Phillpot's Hard Chrome in Luton, just off J11 of the M1.

I can also recommend Philpotts. I had some 70's Suzuki forks done a few years ago. From memory, they arranged courier collection and return.
