Hi Everyone,

I need to remove the tail light assembly framework from the rear mudguard to fit another type of tail light Army Bullet (65) .There appears to be two captive bolts with no visible nuts on the underside of the mudguard.Any help would be appreciated. Dave G.

Hi Dave------Let's start with the usual initial reply by asking for a bit more detail please and possibly a photo of your existing set-up ??.........My guess is that you want to change your existing large, "Modern" looking tail light to the smaller, "Reto" looking one on a Bullet '65..?...........or is it the other way around ??..............On all 4 Indian Bullets that I've owned down the years ( and on others seen at friends, shows etc. ) the whole of the tail light assy. unit -- including the No. plate and indicator stalks, is held onto the rear mudguard by a single bolt accessed via the underside of that rear mudguard......... Once you have removed that bolt and unplugged the electrics then whole assy is free from the bike..........You can then dismantle the lens unit, bulb carrier etc.....

As above, you'll be horrified, the entire tail light/number plate holder assembly on a pre-unit bullet is held on by a big long M8 bolt going through from the inside of the mudguard.

If it's not been removed recently, there can be a lot of corrosion on it and it's tricky to get at. It's easier if you either remove the rear wheel or pivot the rear subframe up. Then you can get a decent socet on it. I replaced mine with a well copaslipped stainless bolt since it's going into steel and is not particularly load bearing.
