My 1960 Connie has an irritating audible vibration that I can hear at times. When I bought the bike it only had the front tank mounting, at the rear of the tank tied to the frame was a home-made rubber pad, everything else was missing. On Checking our hosts parts books i ordered the rear tank mounting (a bracket & rubber block) which bolts to the bottom of the tank - however the rubber buffer is listed as temporarily unavailable; i'm guessing that the lack of that particular part is whats making the tank vibrate at certain engine speeds. Does any Connie/Super meteor/interceptor owner have any remedies for this or do i just keep making home made rubber buffers till i cure the problem? Many thanks, best regards, Mark

You could try fitting the rubber sleeve that is used to do the same job on the Interceptors, part number 41562. It is only £4 and although not as large as the Connie type will at least allow you to ride the bike for now!

A short chunk of radiator hose of the correct I/D and thickness, slit lengthways to sit over the frame top tube, is probably all you need. A.

Thanks Mark; I've just ordered what you suggested from our hosts. Did a shortish (10 mile) ride yesterday on the Connie (slowly getting there!) but the tank "vibe" irritated me no end and got me flustered, being flustered I started doing silly cock ups with my gear changes thinking I was still riding a Triumph so called it a day. I should have a new camera by next weekend so hopefully i'll post a few photos and show how the bikes turned out

Hi Marko, remove the tank and check the head steady to frame stud also check the routing of cables.

Hi Marko, the correct rubber buffer is quite short and difficult to locate correctly it sometimes moves out of place, I now do similar to Adrians advice and use a longer length of thick rubber tie wrapped to the top tube.

Hello, same problem with my ‘59 model, but I’d put it down to the Indian Connie tank I bought. My cure is the same as everyone else’s, but using thickish leather...

Problem sorted a new rubber as suggested by Mark M arrived today which looked suspiciously similar to the one on the bike that I thought was home made - some twit (not me) had cut away the sides of the rubber (possibly to make fitting the tank easier?) and the tank vibrated like hell; fitted new unbutchered rubber and hey presto problem sorted. I'm happy today..
