that's a nice looking job, though I think I'd prefer an oil seal where possible. Strangely enough the Electra-X has neither oil seal nor bronze bush behind the timing pinion (as standard), I think the intention was to rely on the high capacity of the gear scavenge pump to overcome wet-sumping. My old Electra would leak oil into the sump from the timing chest but somehow never smoked on start-up. Would that my AVL hybrid didn't....
Meanwhile if you look at the Indian 500 Bullet crankcases currently in our hosts' used parts section, you can see where the modification for the lumpier cam by the previous owner has sliced through the oil seal housing. I wonder if a custom bronze bush would be the answer to that one.

I'm not sure the ignition side of the timing gears would have added much to the mechanical noise, as they're quite lightly loaded compared to the cam gears. Is your crank mounted ignition going to be an ignition generator only, or will it be the sort with added lighting coils?
