Hi.. Paul... What do you reckon would be a good initial setting for slide and jets for 28mm Concentric.. I'm on 220 main.. Not sure what slides in there at the moment.. The bike is starting easier now but spitting popping and banging back through the carb so way too lean..

Hi Tom, 220 for the main jet is probably ok with the 28mm carb. Make sure you don't have a 105 needle jet - you want 106 in there. as things are, I think you ought to try raising the needle a notch, this might prove a big help. A slide with a number 3 cutaway would probably be ideal. Regards, Paul.

Thanks Paul... I've got 106 in there so I'll check the slide..

Solve your carby problem the easy way junk the amal and fit a jap mikuni carb, easy to tune and dont wear out.

Fitting a new Mikuni will indeed work better than an old Amal. If my carb was worn, I would be fitting a NEW Amal, to achieve just as good a result. Incidentally, I was once asked to fit three new carbs to a Triumph Hurricane, because the old ones were 'knackered'. After 20 minutes tweaking and adjusting, the engine was running like new on all three pots, saving the owner around £300. Don't just assume the Amal is the culprit.

Hi Guys

Right the 535 touched tarmac for the first time today.. Bike starts and ticks over nicely but is spitting and banging and won't accelerate above very small throttle so obviously too lean.. Current settings are 220 main jet, 106 needle jet, No3 slide and needle on bottom notch.. Amy suggestions as to jet size to try 230 or 240 etc?
