Hi matey !!---------- Yes, I can see now what you are using.......You DO have a pilot jet but it's now fitted as a press-in bush type......and as this video will show they can cause problems due to the small size and 90 degree bends....PS}--- The bloke seems to know what he's on about-- but he needs to go on a Camera Handling course ..... Only joking Paul mate. LoL !!

You might want to consider re-locating your pilot jet to be as in my first photo ??------OR, changing the adjuster screw to the other side for ease of access ??--------Here's a bit of bed-time reading for you..............The good news is that all these problems are fairly "Old hat" by now as the concentric has been around for EEE-ons and used on many makes of bikes so don't despair !!------------------------------------------ http://www.jba.bc.ca/Bushmans%20Carb%20Tuning.html ------

Just a further thought but it might well be a small shaving of Aluminium ( created when the bush was pressed in ) has come loose and partially blocked the passageway ??......It was a "Cheapie" production job by Amal that's caused untold misery down the years..........If you can I'd recommend getting your carb converted to have the pilot jet fitted as per my first photo...From an owners maintenance point of view it's the easiest and least troublesome version..

Hi Tom, did you try what Paul said i.e tickling the carb a bit while the engine is running? He recently posted a video of a Panther being started after a 40yr slumber and you can see him doing what he told you to do in the video. The "bush" pilot jet on Mk1s can be cleaned with a small wire (guitar sting) if it is blocked, its a job that can drive you nuts at times, but it can be done. Right...if you have fuel supply, i.e float needle/float working correctly there shouldn't be a problem.. the bugger should run and not go "booooooooore" & engine death when the throttle is blipped. There are a few occasions when one of my engines (triumphs) suffered what you have described and were not carb related: 1) the ignition was horribly retarded after a rebuild (points & auto advance) 2) the wires from the Boyer pickups were crossed - which sent the ignition timing out of whack, 3)pickups on my boyer were totally fried... I thought i'd save the best till last 4)idiot owner (me)in an extreme moment of youthful numptyness forgot to set valve clearances after a top end rebuild and ended up calling the AA...

Hi Marko

Carb is still on the kitchen table lol... Unfortunately work interfears with play.

I'll give it a try on Saturday... The Boyer was left in place only the two pick up wires were disconnected so that shouldn't be an issue.. I've ordered a new Pazon anyway as the Boyer has a built in rev limiter but it should still run... The carburettor was left on the bench untouched for about 6 weeks but was fine on the bike prior to rebuild....

I've had a go at clearing any porentisl blockage to the pilot jet drilling but can't really see how any crap coukd have got in there considering the float bowl and filter were spotless when i eventually stripped it down... I've squirted wd40 through every fuel way to ensure they're clear...

Tom sometimes all it takes is the tiniest piece of crap to bugger up carburation; I always used to think that as the fuel is filtered at the tank and at the carb that this would not allow "crap" to affect the carb/carbs.. how wrong I was! I was always miffed with the carbs on my triumph, the bottoms of the float bowl drains would fill up with red/maroon-ish coloured goo, this muck consequently buggering things up. I eventually found out that very small particles of rust were getting through both filters; I eventually had the triumph tank lined and the problem went away - but then I swapped the Bonneville for a Constellation! You have a Pazon on the way (imho better than boyer) - could well be that when you fit it your carb problems disappear? Lets hope so, good luck

Hi Marko

Yes I know.... I've build dozens of Brit bikes.. This is the first one that's really stumped me.. I've had a couple of 350 Bullets and a 59 Connie so I'm pretty conversant with RE's from a self taught home spanner twirling perspective..... The bike has an alloy tank so no tank crud present.... The 53 Meteor on the other hand runs fine lol... Tom
