Just got a 2017 continental GT and wanted some info on this component and can I ditch it? I’m guessing I probably can. But really what I want to know is can it just be stripped out and then left as is or do I need to blank anything off? There is a hose from the tank, one from the throttle body and a valve of sorts. Then two hoses down to what looks like some kind of catchment tank or something. Thanks for any advice

I doubt that anyone will know yet. My guess is that it is either some sort of exhaust gas recirculating gubbins, fuel overflow device or a charcoal canister. The latter is fitted to a lot of bikes sold in California and most owners junk them. I would have thought that the hose to the throttle body would need to be blocked off if removed, otherwise air would be introduced, upsetting the EFI. RE has to do something emissions-wise to meet Euro IV and it looks like they’ve put more emissions junk on it. Maybe an owner of one of these bikes will comment. You might void your warranty if you mess with it yet. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Hi Dance------- OK, just to start the ball rolling then}----- From your description it sounds like it's a vapour filtering device ??........Maybe it's part of the Euro emissions legislation ?? ...... I wouldn't be too hasty in removing anything just yet until you know for sure exactly what impact that will have on the bike overall......For instance, is there any sensor link to the main ECU ??.......Why not give our hosts workshops a call as they must have serviced quite a few of the GT models by now ??

As above. Pretty sure euro 4 means the ECU has to actually monitor emissions output and if it detects high levels, revert to "limp mode" or cut the engine. It also has to incorporate "anti tamper" measures (which I suspect will result in a fault light if it finds anything poutside normal parameters). What a limping bullet would be like to ride I shudder to think...



Not as bad as vans. My euro 5 van can and will flat refuse to start if you fail to top up the addblu additive tank in time. If you top it up with urine or water like many wagon drivers did with their euro 4 ones, it'll go into limp mode.

thanks for the replies, sorry i meant to post a photo earlier but forgot. the truth is i will be getting the carb conversion along with exhaust and filter when money allows but for the time being i am just interested in tidying it up a little. the problem really is the big black canister that attaches to the frame and sits behind the starter, its not exactly the prettiest thing to look at. so far i have resorted to deleting that and redirecting the hoses downwards as the rest is hidden behind the side cover so doesn't bother me a great deal. the bike starts and idles as normal yet I've not had the chance to take it for a run yet.

I think some people don't understand change anything to do with emissions compliance for the registration year of the bike and the bike will then be illegal and fitting a carburettor will be the same.

Really? What law, specifically, would it be breaking?



I ask because I'm not aware of such a law and have never, ever heard of a privately owned, built or modified motorcycle in the UK being tested for emissions* or the owner of one being prosecuted for modifying emissions equipment.



*The exception being noise emissions.

When I looked at a euro 4 CGT that big black thing behind the starter is the abs brake unit, remove this at your peril.
