Hello Folks





Right My Bike is a 2005 Home Mkt 350 Machismo..a 350 AVL in a Std Bullet Frame etc.

(Engine is a 350 K/S version of our Electra X ) also found in the 350 Thunderbird of the time.



I need a replacement exhaust ..But it seems to have a Larger Pipe size than my past Std/Clasic 350s which where 11/2 pipe.



The Exhaust down pipe is: 15cm / 6” Circumference and (aprox) 4.5cm / 1 ¾ Dia Centre line

With apox 1.5 cm centre to centre on the Head Stud Fixing.



So my question…is this a Standard..2005 500 Electra X fitting?

Or any 350 Thunderbird / AVL owners who can point me in the right direction.

I would have thought that the Electra-X pipe is a direct fit, or possibly one of our hosts' free-flowing replacements.



The larger diameter of the pipe compared to the classic 350's 1.5" is because of the lean-burn function of the AVL exhaust, it is double-skinned and contains a smaller bore inner pipe.



There is a school of thought that the unrestricted 1.75" diameter pipe used on the classic 500 is a bit too big, some 500 Bullets used for classic racing in the 90's actually had the smaller bore pipes off the 350 fitted to speed up the exhaust gasses. The current EFI models use a 1⅝" pipe. You get to decide whether a restricted Electra-X pipe or an unrestricted 1.75" pipe (which might be too big!) is what you need. I don't know if an EFI pipe would fit, our hosts can advise.

interesting, the whole point of the AVL redesign was that it was a lean-burn engine, though of course many of us have de-leaned the engine at some stage, and I suspect not a few Indian owners will have done the same. It is possible that the innerds of the original pipe were removed some time before the bike left India, or an after-market pipe was fitted - what do you know of your bike's history?

It was imported and tarted up By SOS Motorcycles..(They did quite a few back then)..Any way single or double skined..What pipe fits the 350? is the 13/4" the same as the 500?..Or was the Original pipe 11/2 in side of a 13/4??..Cheers all.

The inner pipe is a lot more restrictive than that, ISTRC it is about 7/8" diameter, the outer pipe is 1.75" on 350 and 500 models, same as the 500 classic Bullet.



Our hosts **do** stock some 350 AVL parts, though they're not in the on-line parts books and rarely in the accessory catalogue, and I have done a little more digging, cross referencing the Combined Spare Parts Catalogue Retired Models (dead tree edition) and our hosts' spares search.



Long story short, the parts book shows the 350 AVL Machismo and Thunderbird exhaust pipes to be interchangeable, and if you type 521137 into the parts search, **behold**, it comes up with the Thunderbird exhaust pipe, yours for £56.90 + VAT and carriage, my boy.

Thank you Adrian & others so it is 13/4” on Both…And if I can not find a Plain old down Pipe to fit then I have :521137 as back up……I am trying to limp on till after the Salt season then fit in the Spring (and fix a weeping head gasket too)……. Cheers and Good Night all…

I had a flange (effectively a 1.75" bore washer) welded onto an original Woodsman pipe 3/4" from the port end for both my old Electra-X and my current AVL hybrid, that is an option if you want a high level pipe (some of the r/h side tinware amidships has to go).



Our hosts Electra-X and Thunderbird-specific Woodsman pipe is not such a good shape IMHO, though the Woodsman pipe for the classic Indian Bullet can be modified as above.



521137 is probably still your best bet.
