If you do it yourself; properly or otherwise, then chances are it'll look like you've done it yourself. If you need a professional finish then use a professional. Personally speaking, if it'd happened on my Bullet I'd be mortified for a few seconds then rapidly learned to live with it. If it happened on my Sportster then yes I would have it professionally repaired.

I’ve carried out a similar repair using humbrol enamel, cocktail stick, masking tape, solvol, T-cut and polish. Very hard to see the original blemish if you take your time. Only problem I found was the paint wasn’t as tough as the original finish and polishing it reduced the height of the repair so it became noticeable. After a second repair I just used a dry micro cloth to polish the tank. Avoid petrol spillage on the repair as well !

Black.Its normally very easy to fix as there ain't very many shades.Black then grey then white.

Have a bit of confidence in yourself and give it a go. Don't use filler, use a fine brush and build the paint up in the scratch in layers and then just slightly overlap it. Even better if you use an aerosol or air brush for final layer(s) Use fine grad wet and dry no more than 400 grit for the first light rub then finer grades up to 2000 and then t cut. You will save a fair bit and gain another skill. If for some reason it all goes tits up you won't have lost anything You can always call the experts in then but I bet it won't be less than £50

"Won't be less than £50.00" perhaps not but peanut's compared to tank that irritates you every time you get on the bike, as is it's an easy repair for a professional, start putting different paint types on and it then becomes a much bigger job when the new paint reacts.then up goes the price.

I don't know your experience Revband but the paint won't react unless you use a totally unsuitable type. Its like saying you should pay for a professional to change the oil or spark plugs in case you strip the threads

I'd use a fine 00 artist's brush and black enamel under a bright lamp. If you dislike the results, wipe it off with mineral spirits or hire it done.

I bought my Bullet with a dented tank and ended up getting one from India. It had no clear coat and the seller, like most Indian sellers I've dealt with, described it poorly.

Correct Valsp, you don't know my experience, i have been spraying for over 50 years, some unsuitable types have already been recommended?. When a paint reacts you have two choices. Remove all the incorrect type and start again or use a coat of inert sealer.both making an easy job into a far bigger job with a far bigger bill. As usual on an internet forum bad advice is being handed out.
