Managed to get a couple or 3mm adjustment out if the rearset and that gave enough to allow the gears to select so happy days... I've run the engine up to temperature a couple of times and it sounds happy enough so I'll retorque head and re adjust tappets.... New Avon Road Riders going on next week... Then we'll see what's what... Going to fit new alloy mudguards..

Flaming bike grr... Started again..3rd time since rebuild..same scenario every time... Running OK with no unexpected noises etc... But as soon as it starts warming up it cuts out... Not seized.. Fuel still comes through tickler so not starvation.. Well don't think so.. And won't restart.. Any ideas?

Have you considered that it may be the Boyer unit. They give excellent after sales service. They would check the unit and report on its functioning. I realise it's a difficult call but I'd say this is ignition related - as Alan R suggests. Although carburation is well to the fore as the culprit too.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to flush the tank out and re-fill with fresh fuel....Yes, Boyer a very good re}-- after sales service and help.......Give them a phone call first to discuss your problem and mention that you'd like them to check your unit over..

Well I was considering upgrading to a mkIV Boyer anyway so it might be worth just doing that as a matter of course..

Just had a thought.. Wonder if the valve clearances are too small.. So as soon as it warms up not closing enough. A long shot but it would make sense.. They felt loose enough to me when I did them..I have got Hitchcocks performance valves fitted.

Actually not such a long shot at all--------it could very well be just what you suspect.......Some time ago a small number of Bullet '65 models were suffering from Valve seat recession due to the factory fitting the wrong cyl. heads.....The symptoms were just the same as you describe....Mine happened at the Stafford Bike show in front of everyone in the bike parking area !!( Much verbal assistance came forth from the "Lads" !!)...........My mate's happened on the A49 just South of Ludlow on a rainy Saturday morning on our way to the Forest of Dean !!..........In both cases exactly as you describe because the exhaust valve was being partially opened so no compression ......This Enfield Ownership business certainly toughens you up a bit ---eh ??

Hi Alan

Yes I will be taking a look at those tappets at the weekend..

performance cams require 0.002" clearance so that's my first port of call before the wallet comes out!..
