I have a Denali horn fitted to my G5 that is very loud and does the job well. On browsing the handbook I saw that the maximum amps for the horn is 2.5 amps. The Denali draws 5.0 amps. Being electrically challenged, can anyone tell me if the Denali will do any damage please? I have a lithium battery fitted. Thanks in advance.

I have one fitted on my C5. Relay replaces the poxy peep peep kiddy scooter horn to drive the coil, through an inline fuse to one side of the contacts from the battery, sound bomb on the other then find an earth on the frame. I used the engine bar clamp. No electrical trouble and shares in dry cleaning companies do up when you use it.

It is illegal to use the horn unnecessarily in Queensland, no tooting goodbye when leaving after a visit to your aunt Nellie, no tooting to `Get a move on` at the lights. Only to be used in an emergency like when you are about to run over a J-walker, or a kangaroo in the middle of the road.
A loud horn is waste of money around here, and could attract the attention of the Gestapo.

Wow. That IS gestapo levels of interference there. And there I was thinking Australia was a relatively modern, open and permissive society.



The thing that worries me there is the number of things that are subjective and so allow a policeman with an axe to grind way too much leeway to make up his own rules if he catches someone flagrantly in posession of a face he does not like the look of.



Who the hell cares if you leave your car unlocked? I used to live in a deeply rural area of the scotland and would sometimes not only leave my car unlocked but with the keys in in case it was in the way and someone needed to move it. Queensland is WAY more rural than anything in the UK.



back to Horns. Yes, a relay would make sense, you risk burning out the wiring if it's not thick enough (there will be a little extra capacity in the wiring for safety but probably not 100% more.). That said, it is very intermittant so I doubt you'd be sounding it for long enough to make an enormous difference.



I don't seem to be able to make a horn (of any type or cost) last longer than 12 months on a bullet, it just seems to kill them so I just keep a cheapo ebay one spare in the lockup ready to fit the morning of the MOT which is when they usually fail.

What’s a horn for? I’d rather concentrate on taking evasive action than beeping at somebody. The only time I use mine is to beep twice before going over a blind summit on a narrow bridge etc. This isn’t India. No point in getting aggressive every time some twit does something stupid behind the wheel or, indeed, the bars. There are laws about misuse of the horn in the U.K. too, though nothing as draconian as those mentioned earlier.

A great attention grabber. Indeed, Leon. Here in the Mother Country they are gonna grab the attention of a member of Her Majesty’s Fuzz if you use them on the highway. There is also a question mark over the old fashioned ‘bulb’ horn because it emits one tone as you squeeze the rubber bulb and a different tone as it inhales after releasing it. You can fit as many devices as you want to your vehicle but they must sound together to be legal. Crazy isn’t it, if like me you are a bit Mutt & Jeff you have a much higher chance of hearing one of a range of tones rather than a continuous monotone horn. Adam.
