Perhaps a silly question but, in fitting the centre stand, putting the strap for the spring in the logical place, the top two bolts securing the gear box to the engine, it appears impossible to stretch the spring. Is the strap in the right place please? I cannot see any where else.
The part no for the spring is 37891, recommended for the alloy centre stand.

Some centre stand springs are tight to get on. I had to replace one on a Suzuki 500 GT and the only way I could do it was to put it on stands, strap the front wheel to the front of the lift and use a ratchet strap connected to the spring with a wire loop to stretch the spring

Have a look in the Accessory shop for this: Spring Hook Tool. I bought one a couple of years back and I wish I'd done it years ago it makes the job so much easier. It is still awkward but you stand a chance with this.

The other traditional method is to put one end of the spring in a vice, bend it back and forward, and put a washer or coin in the gap that appears in each loop of the spring. Put them in alternate sides to keep it straight. That should extend the spring enough to get it on, then remove the washers.

Leverage.


Remove the top Left-rear gearbox fixing nut. Loosen off the Top-right nut all but a couple of turns.


Slip of the left-hand end of the Spring bracket from the gear box studs, allowing the Spring tag end at the right, to pivot downwards.


Hook top of spring through the tag eye, hook bottom end of spring onto centre stand.


Lever down the Right hand end of the bracket (there by stretching the spring) and slip it back onto the gear box stud. Secure both nuts...

Thanks to all, I made a rod from timber to fit under the bracket and using another peice of timber as a brace, levered the spring onto the top right hand stud, and then manhandled the other end of the strap in to position. All that though can't do much good to the studs threads!! Once I had it worked out, it took about 1 minute from start to finish, and a couple of days of anguish.
