I finally got round to finding out why the Ebay Bullet engine locked up. It appears the piston skirt is too long and it fouls the flywheels at BDC. Since the whole rationale behind the project was to build it from bits that were at hand I will own up now that because the piston was missing from the engine as bought, I used one that was A) available from my box of mystery pistons and B) fitted the bore. It is an Enfield item so quite why it don't fit I'm not sure although I suspect it is a post 55 design with a longer shaped skirt rather than a simple straight bottomed skirt type. If you see what I mean! Anyway, I'm going to see our Hosts tomorrow and will check.

Yes, there is a serious danger of misunderstandings when one explains the answer to one's other half, saying I've fixed it, the skirt's too long!
