Just got a new composite head gasket, thought I had ordered a solid copper one (my mistake).

Does the slightly raised lips around the bore and the holes for the pushrods go up or down?

Well as no one else seems to know, these raised areas will just crush level when you fit the head and are three to provide a sealing ring, unless the gasket it marked "top" then it really makes no difference.

I put them up. There is nothing written on the gasket wether up or down so I just put mine on up and the head I suppose squashes them down. They are some sort of extra fire ring or thicker sealing part where the head joins to the barrel. I think that they would also stop any compression escaping between the two copper gasket sheets. Just my thoughts on it all and I may be wrong.
