Anyone as sad as me and mounts a GoPro camera on their bike to record rides? If so what do you use to mount it. I used a home made steel mount bolted to the handlebar/forks bolt. It was all fine except that at higher revs there was a period of vibration that caused a lot of shake. GoPro sell a handlebar clamp with a rubber strip that fits between the clamp and handlebar, has anyone used one and does it damp down vibration?

I'm a bit ambivolent as to these videos. An endless videolog of winding roads and passing hedges.. Very little variety. I'd rather be out on my bike and enjoy it all for real. I can understand the evidential value in the event of an accident but frankly these 'see my ride' videos aren't really my cup of tea.

Others will disagree....


Nonetheless, I hope someone chimes in with advice for you... Ride safe.

From what I`ve seen, fitting a camera seems to cause an accident or some kind of drama for the rider / driver.

I'm surprised that the insurance companies don't insist on cameras being fitted to all vehicles. It would cost pennies if factory fitted and the evidence is invaluable in collisions and 'accidents'. Certainly it's as important as gloves and skid lid to me.

This is my 'Farmer Giles' method of mounting a camera, seen in this video. I use it to record road tests of machines I work on, as well as some technical stuff and a few of my own rides, I can then give an owner a link to the relevant video[s] and we can discuss the work in progress. Thanks for the advice. I really like the 'Farmer Giles' version. Simple and effective. Just for record I take videos of recommended routes around my part of the world but mainly for our annual pilgrimage to Netley and Beaulieu and our rides around the New Forest in September.

The rubber mounting makes vibration worse in my experience.
Have a look at Bullet Whisperer's videos. The camera is chest mounted by the look of it. It's an option.

I have yesterday followed Bullet Whisperer's "Farmer Giles" method. Used a short piece of old 3.25x19 tube, cut the oval for the lens (no, not a circle as the tube section is only stretched one way) and bungied it on my chest. Took off windshield, and off I went. All OK. I haven't yet worked out how to reduce its size from the gigabyte size 7min video otherwise I'd show it here so you could all see what suburban Cape Town looks like in the glaring sunshine.
