Hi all anybody know the centre to centre dimensions for swinging arm settings for std 300mm enfield shocks on a early 90s bullet 350. Had a strip gauge made years ago but has been lost or hacked up for brackets. Regards from sunny aust. 37c today.

What do you mean "centre to centre dimensions for swinging arm settings". From Tassie 15c highest temp yesterday and will be the same today.

Probably no use to you, but there is some sort of frame gauge featured in the workshop manual. I haven`t got the manual now, so I can`t post a photo.

Wasn't that to do with setting the chain tension ??.......You bolted it on in place of one rear shock and it gave the ambient position for setting the chain...

Could be, Alan, I only glanced at it a couple of times, but seem to remember something about frame alignment. Long gone now. I`m down to riding a Repco bicycle. SIGH !

The thing in my manual is a "gauge for tightening the chain stay". They call the swing arm the chain stay for some obscure reason. It bolts in place of 1 shock absorber and gives a central position to the rubber swing arm bush so when tightened up the swing arm can move up or down from the central position. You can get the same thing by just bolting the shock absorbers into position before tightening the swing arm bolt up. The rubber swing arm bushes are called
"silent bloc", bushes and quoting the work shop manual, "the pivot nuts should be fully tightened only with the swing arm positioned in mid stroke".

Isn't the piece of bar with a hole at either end to allow positioning of the swinging arm (prior to tightening the bolt) to be done single handedly?
With two people the rider sits on the bike, the 2nd person tightens the axle bolt and the silent bloc bushes are subjected to minimal twisting during use.
