binary: You can't see the clocks for a very good reason. Not the obvious one of being done for doing 180 mph on a CGT (wink), but if I mistakenly go over the speed limit a few mph, I can't use the video. In short, I don't want to ride with me just looking at the clocks for it would be a stupid way to ride.
Of course, all this is a tad past tense for me now. However, I am no stranger to motor bikes, having had all sorts from a Tomas moped at 16 to a Honda VTR1000 SP2 up to 2008. There's been 2-stokes, singles, V-twins, triples, and, surprisingly, just one four.
Anywho, before I purchased SMLE I did a load of reading. Rightly or wrongly, with this info', and having sat on a Bullet classic (ouch, my backside (wink)) I went for the CGT. With the info' gathered and more questions asked, the thought was that the CGT would have the better chance of keeping pace with modern day traffic. By keeping pace I don't mean being able to overtake everything in sight. I have my Daytona 955i for that, should I so wish.
By most accounts the CGT should do 85 to 90 mph, and with the GoPro mount the way it is it always looks like SMLE is going a lot faster than it is, but, for example, in the video where I'm going past a junction on the motorway and a lorry is joining the motorway on the left, that lorry was probably only doing 50 mph, hence why, along with the rather "lively" Go Pro mount, means it looks like I'm about to overtake Carl Fogarty (tee hee).
That 2300 odd miles before the "ping" went roughly as follows: 7 (pre-registered) - 300 miles, approx' max' of 37 mph, up to 2500 - 3000 rpm max', but not, I may add, all the time and speed was varied. 300 or so to 1254 miles: 50 - 55 mph, max' rev's up to, but rarely, 4000 rpm. 1254 on, running in period as stated (as per book in regards max' speeds, rpm is not stated) completed.
In all those miles, high speeds, above 60 mph, for any period of time, let alone any long periods, were actually quite few, and by far the most mileage was accumulated commuting to and from Brum'. As an example, my route into Brum' has, roughly, just a couple of miles of 50 mph, perhaps a mile and half of 60 mph, and perhaps the same of 70 mph. The rest is 40 mph or less, and, of course, with Brum', whatever the speed limit states it's always less (wink).
I'll leave it at that for now as detailed (ish) reports and updates were to be compiled and posted about when I've put a fair few miles more on the new engine, but in the meantime, suffice to say that the new engine is a lot less "tappety" than the original ones was.
I'll update things properly when the new engine has had more of a chance.
Chris.
