Hmm, odd... Has it been there long or only just occurred?
It doesn't appear to be any sign of imminent failure of the gearbox as a whole, I assume it is all still working OK, but you can always drain the oil and look for metallic particles indicating something wrong internally.
I'm wondering if it's just a casting fault that has taken 13 years to reveal itself, as it's not an obvious place for damage caused by flying debris from the road.
Someone was extolling the virtues of JB Weld on another thread recently, I think that is probably your short/medium term answer, or Lumiweld. You can always get the hole properly welded up later on if the gearbox has to come apart for any reason.
