Hi, It looks like I have a small hole in the gearbox casing on my 65 RE. Cant figure out how to post a picture. If someone could guide me how to post a picture, it should become clear about the hole. Thanks

You need the picture to be hosted somewhere on the internet then post a link to it here. Two popular sites are flikr and google photos. Upload the picture then click on the "share" link (on google photos it's a symbol like an angle with three blobs at the top right of the screen) then select the "get link" option and paste it here. That'll let other people look at the picture.



Embedding the image so it appears in your post is slightly more complicated on this forum, you need to wrap it in html tags. I'm not absolutely certain but I think flickr might have an embed link which has those already on it.

Way to complicated for me I am afraid. I don't think the hole should be there. its at the 7 O clock position looking at the dip stick in the casing. What could I use to fill it? Chemical metal? What could have caused it.

When you say "65 RE" do you mean a Sixty-5 or a 1965

Sorry. I mean a sixty-5. Its a 2004 model

The description is still a bit vague, please have another go at the photo posting instructions, as a good photo will help our resident panel of hole diagnosers a lot.

Hmm, odd... Has it been there long or only just occurred?



It doesn't appear to be any sign of imminent failure of the gearbox as a whole, I assume it is all still working OK, but you can always drain the oil and look for metallic particles indicating something wrong internally.



I'm wondering if it's just a casting fault that has taken 13 years to reveal itself, as it's not an obvious place for damage caused by flying debris from the road.



Someone was extolling the virtues of JB Weld on another thread recently, I think that is probably your short/medium term answer, or Lumiweld. You can always get the hole properly welded up later on if the gearbox has to come apart for any reason.
