Hi Guys has any one got any ideas but my 2008 electra x misfires when i build the revs up it has a dellorto carb.It runs fine at low speeds but the second i try to go over 50 mph in top gear it feels like it is going to cut out.I bought a colortune thinking it might be running too rich but that didnt make any difference

Has this only started recently? Sounds like partial fuel starvation.

If you have checked for debris in the needle or main jet and found no obstruction, don't forget to check the air vent in the petrol filler cap in case a blockage there is causing a partial vacuum. Also the Dell'Orto PHF32 used on some Electra-X bikes has an accelerator pump, I assume this is working correctly.

I also seem to recall reading something about failing ignition coils cutting out at higher rpm. The UK 2008 Electra-X machines were actually manufactured in 2007, so they're ten years old now and can be prone to one or two electrical problems.

Not enough info.

Has this just happened all of a sudden?

Did the motor used to rev out cleanly?

The spark plug is the window into the engine and reveals all...

Hi GAVIN,

Ditto with TIM NZ but in this case that Colortune literally lets you see how the mixture is burning.....Remember, it's a diagnostic aid, not the cure in itself, so what readings did you get then ??...Is the bike absolutely standard ie}-- As built or has it been "modified" in any way..........One easy check is to fit a brand new plug and see what happens........Was the bike laid-up for any lengthy period of time ??.........Drain the float chamber and check for water...As TIM says, we need more info.

PS}---- What happens if you keep your road speed at 50 mph and change down to 4th gear ??
