Bumpkin,

all the bits are freely available, if you're not into soldering the ends onto a universal (eg Venhill) choke cable you probably know someone who can.

Dell'Orto UK are very good with the parts, here's the kit for the carburettor itself, part number 53006:

As for the cable, you MIGHT be able to get a suitable one ready made from a KTM dealer as they fitted this type of carb to some of their 4 stroke bikes in the 90's. A quick check on ebay shows the sort of thing you'll need to fit with an old-style Amal or Doherty choke lever, hopefully you can find one of these a bit nearer home!

Somewhere selling spares for 70's/80's Ducatis and Moto Guzzis could also help, eg http://ducatipaddy.com

Fitting the conversion is straightforward once you have the cable sorted.

Sorry for the delay in replying chaps, I have been riding the bike, well sailing up here in NW England. The carb is a Ucal Mikuni BS29. Being a CV carb I will have a look at how it is operating.

My Electra has had the airbox gubbins removed, free flow exhaust, Amal Mk 1 carb no filter - no smoke. 5000 miles on the bike. Sounds like a carb/tuning set up issue. Bin the standard set up and do above and fly!

Electra and fly in the same post?. Oxymoron I think.

Only that an Electra X is indeed capable of being lightened and tuned and turned into a facsimile of the classic British sporting single. But it needs an owner that understands how to achieve that outcome.

Sorry Allan R, done nothing about it yet, a winter job. I am too busy riding it and my other two bikes and building a fourth at the moment, enjoying the 'Indian Summer' we are having up north. Will report back. Meanwhile it passed its MoT this week and the tester pointed out that there was a oil leak around the main head gasket but as pointed out by Adrian oil does not produce black smoke and if it was oil it wouldn't only smoke when I accelerated.
