Hopefully a Redditch transmission expert will be along soon, but I can at least explain a bit about this forum. If you want it to do anything other than plain un-paragraphed text you have to trick it with some HTML, Scalyback and some of the others here have got their heads around this.

Anyhew, to put in a paragraph break you need to type THIS at the end of each paragraph:

While we're on the subject, if you want to post an actual picture on here instead of just the link, we need HTML again. I don't know how it works with your Google photo album, but most picture hosting sites offer various codes for posting individual pictures on forums. Most forums seem to accept the BBCode, not this one, it only takes the HTML. So you have to see if there is an HTML code you can post, NOTHING ELSE WORKS ON HERE. Ideally it will offer you a medium size option.

Being able to insert paragraph breaks, you can now save wear and tear on your punctuation keys, Alan!

< b r > on its own will drop down one line, < b r > < b r > (no gaps when typing, of course) will further leave a line between blocks of text, thus making the post easier to read. Also use before and after photographs.

Got it stripped right down.

Good job too. Look what was lurking in the bottom of the crankcase!

Well. Luck hasn't held.

Just got word back from our hosts that the crankcases are entirely unsuitable for a 612 conversion and the clutch would also be a bust. Since a 612 is what I want, it's back to scouring ebay/gumtree etc for a set of suitable casings.

Might be enough in parts to fund a donor engine.

Sorry to hear that the crankcases aren't up to snuff, what is the reason given by our hosts as to why they can't be used for a 612 conversion?

Apparently the long stroke crank won't fit in the cases and the side webbing is less heavy duty.

I'll likely throw it back together and punt it on an online auction site. Probably better to shift the 50's transmission parts seperately to the motor. I'll keep the alternator. At least I'll be hawking a freshly refurbed motor that doesn't have lumps of hardened steel floating about in the bottom of the crankcase.

I will admit to toying with the idea of buying a mid/late 90's 500 trailer queen and doing a switcharoo on the short engine but I think it's pushing the boundries of honesty a bit too far for my concience. I know that's what has been done with mine but it was very cheap and was sold as seen as a non-runner.
