Hello Iain,

Why wouldn't you buy a Guzzi For your travels ? These are lively miles eaters, low on seat, and really easy to service. I'd go to a G5, a California or even an Le Mans (I had one, a real joy)

and I'd agree that Guzzi's are fine bikes too, I've had a couple of Californias, and my Dad had a 750 Nevada for a few years, so I got to play on that too. Easy to service? Well yes, but hiding the oil filter inside the sump is a PITA. IMHO, there are few bikes as easy to service as a Sportster. Oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Wash the air filter in soapy water and put it back in. Plugs every 10,000 miles, and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well that's it really. You need to oil cables etc occasionally like any other bike, and change brake pads when they wear out, and you'll only adjust the belt if you take the wheel out to change the tyre. The most I put on a Harley drive belt was 40,000 miles over 8 years, but it was still going strong when I sold it.

But really, we don't choose bikes just for practical reasons do we. If we did, then my 30 year old Transalp would be the only bike I need. We choose the bike that moves us, emotionally, and if we love it we'll forgive it's impracticalities.

The old boy had a Nevada. Known as the Nevarida due to parts availability. 2003 spec disc on a supposedly 2002 bike etc.

I do like Guzzi's and nearly bought a LeMans some years back but I have my heart set on certain options.

This is probably where I stand at this point, I'm sure my choices are not the best considering how I will use the bike but I'm sure I will enjoy riding what I eventually purchase and also I will have fulfilled a teenage dream.
