Me a sheltered life, you must be joking. (Given the size of my files at the Home Office, and several other government departments.)

Hey folks, the Home Office and several other government departments have files on P Smurfs carburation doings.
Makes me wonder what they got on the rest of us!

Just for info, Papasmurf, Royal Enfields never had CV carbs until the naughties when Chennai started fitting them to the 350 lean burn models, also the export Electra-X (-ish or otherwise), and more recently many of the Indian home market UCE models.

If it's any consolation the Mikuni TM36-31 pumper carb which my Electra-X wore for a few years uses a push-pull throttle with twin cables hooked into a disc on the side of the carb. I've never seen anyone Else's 500 AVL with one of these (It's a great carb, though clearance is very tight under the rear tank mount), though I think someone on the US forum fitted the smaller TM33 pumper carb.

I'm a bit confused Papa. Almost all the carbs I've ever had have the cable going through the top cap and clipping to the slide.

Old saying, If it don't work then what was touched last and by whom?

If you've routed the cable through the headlight then expect to pull a wire loose on one of the connectors.

Failing that then check the kill switch in the throttle assy for trapped/broken wire..

Papa's running a 34mm SU carb maybe ;)

Can I join the party? I believe most older motorcycle carbs located the throttle cable centrally through the throttle valve/slide; while a considerable number (but by no means all) modern carbs locate the throttle cable externally to a wheel or lever arrangement.

See, a picture or two of the carb set up would help the proceedings here... you know, a thousand words and all that..

Just sayin'...
