I have just purchased a mph speedo for my bullet 500 2001 the original speedo is kph on outside and mph on inside, the new mph speedo registers mph ok although it's about 3mph slow but trip meter registers kph I've tried a new speedo drive but still registers kph, any ideas?

You could easily fit a kph/mph mechanical converter and ignore the mph readings on the speedo as the kph will become mph and the original mph will be redundant but for similar money you could get a new speedometer with a mph display and mile odometer.

Hello ENMAN--- you might have a plastic speedo drive on your front hub ??....On my second Classic 500 it decided to go U/S in the middle of town traffic accompanied by a loud and embarrasing "Clack---clack" sound..........There are metal bodied ones available which I fitted and then I had no more trouble after that ....These Bullet speedos can be widely optimistic.....I used my friend in his car to show me a genuine 30mph which I then marked with a thin line of red sticky insulation tape over the speedo glass.

I moved my Speedo needle back on it's spindle and checked it for accuracy against a 40mph roadside speed check. It took a couple of attempts, but is now much more in touch with reality. Trouble is the bike used to cruise at 65, now it only does that speed flat out!

I would be very interested to know which speedo it is; any chance of a photo on here or a page number if it's from Hitchcock's catalogue please?

I am a bit puzzled why you think changing the drive will help, one drive for both mileage and speed, it is the way the Speedo has been made. More useless imported pattern parts, contact the supplier and complain.

It sounds as if they've changed the dial but not the internals. It's easy to make a new dial so the needle lines up with the MPH equivalent of the KPH reading that the clock is actually generating. The trip meter would therefore give the game away!

Aye, I bought a cheap (£30ish) replacement speedo from the Bay of E, dial was MPH, odometer in KM. They'd just taken a KPH speedo and changed the dial. Seller went very quiet. You get what you pay for. Turned out my problem was the speedo drive anyway, so replaced that and the cable, put my original speedo back on. Now if only it had a trip counter...

Didn't I see a non-permanent marker pen to write the mileage on the handlebar clamp in the accessories section?
