Hi all.. any of you guys have any experience on mounting the ignition coil horizontally? Since it's oil filled I'm thinking of the risk it might leak, but maybe that's just being over concerned... regards Jacob

Hello Jacob, you don't have to bother about the position of the coil. Just think about all the generations of Bonnies and Commandos that have horizontal coils. Hope it will help you. Claude

It can be mounted upside down to keep water out. Some late-model Triumphs have been know to stall from water in the coil.

Good news. Thanks for eleminating any concerns regarding this issue. Now I just have to find a proper spot for relocating the coil. Could be interesting to hear from people who have had some bad a experience with a horizontal mounted coil... regards Jacob

It might help if you tell us what bike it is? The coil could be attached to your helmet if the wires are long enough!

Hi Mark... I'm thinking about placing the coil underneath the seat. The bike is a Bullet 500 from 2003, but it's not the stock seat. The new one has plenty of air flow under the seat base; even room for a coil, but the HT lead might end up being too long... regards Jacob

And why not in one of the tool cases ? It keeps al the wires dry and is hidden. I made that for a bike's friend, on an aluminium plate monted on silent blocks.

You can put the coil under the seat. In airflow or on a heasink. Have a look at the Parts Book for the S2 lnterceptor to get an idea, it is mounted behind a splash guard just in front of the rear wheel for instance. REgards, Mark

Hi WDCO2 and Mark... both solutions look good. I have already used my LH tool box for all the electrics. I´m in a process to free the bike for too many covers etc. Post pictures of the bike to show you what I´m into... regrads Jacob
