I had a lot of parts re chromed on a bike I restored and when I collected them I asked what is the best chrome polish, his answer way never use chrome polish as they are all abrasive, only use a good was polish,

Back in the late sixties a couple of mates with cafe racers,(88 Dominator and Triton) had chrome coil springs wound onto the swept back header pipes..

I'm sure they where a "must have" cafe race accessary, like bacon slicers, clip ons and rear sets..

Just darned if i can find any picture as evidence now, think they helped transfer heat and aid cooling of the pipe where it left the head around the first bend..

As per Leon, retard timing and lean mixture will blue the pipe within a few miles, get the settings right and the pipe takes on a straw colour which can be cleaned off easy with something like Belgom chrome, stuff which seems to have been around since chrome was first put on bikes...

A little more research shows that the key ingredient of Blue Job is aluminium (aloominum!) oxide powder, which is used as a jeweller's polish and is available in different grades. Devise your own fancy packaging.

So, just how does Frank Zappa fit into all this?

The song is "Nanook Rubs It In" as in rubbing motion, polishing, etc, nothing really much to do with de-bluing exhaust pipes but give it a listen...
